[본문]

8 여호야긴이 위에 나아갈 때에 나이 십 팔세라 예루살렘에서 석 달을 치리하니라 그 모친의 이름은 느후스다라 예루살렘 엘라단의 딸이더라 9 여호야긴이 그 부친의 모든 행위를 본받아 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였더라 (열왕기하24장 8~9절) 

8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta daughter of Elnathan; she was from Jerusalem.
9 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father had done. (2 Kings 24:8-9)

[관찰]

므낫세 왕이 무너뜨린 신앙을 요시야 왕이 다시 세웠지만, 이후 여호야김과 여호야긴 왕들에 의해 그 신앙은 다시 무너졌습니다. 이스라엘 역사를 돌아보면, 아버지의 신앙을 이어받기보다는 아버지의 악한 행위를 본받아 여호와 보시기에 악을 행한 왕들이 더 많았습니다. 이는 신앙의 본을 따르는 것이 어렵고, 반대로 악한 행위를 배우는 것은 상대적으로 쉽다는 것을 보여줍니다.

Although King Josiah restored the faith that had been destroyed by King Manasseh, it was once again ruined by the actions of Kings Jehoiakim and Jehoiachin. Looking back at Israel's history, it is evident that many kings followed in their fathers' evil ways rather than inheriting their faith. This reveals that it is difficult to emulate faithfulness, while it is relatively easy to imitate sinful behavior.

하나님께 가까이 나아가며 신앙을 지키는 삶은 결코 쉽지 않습니다. 그러나 자녀들에게 신앙을 물려주기 위해서는 내가 여호와 보시기에 악한 모습으로 남아 있지 않아야 한다는 것을 깨닫습니다. 죄된 모습을 제거하고, 악한 마음을 품는 순간마다 즉시 회개하며 나의 죄성이 나 자신과 내 주변을 갉아먹지 않도록 늘 주의해야겠습니다. 또한, 하나님 이외의 것을 의지하거나 우선시하지 않도록 스스로를 점검하며 신앙을 바로 세워야겠습니다.

Living a life that draws close to God and upholds faith is never easy. However, I realize the importance of not leaving behind a legacy of evil in the eyes of the Lord, especially if I hope to pass on my faith to my children. I must be vigilant in removing sinful tendencies, repenting immediately whenever I harbor evil thoughts, and ensuring that my sinfulness does not corrode my soul or influence those around me. Furthermore, I need to carefully examine my life to ensure that I rely on and prioritize God alone, avoiding the temptation to place trust in anything else.

하나님의 말씀을 가까이 하며 말씀의 영향력 아래 살아가는 삶을 살아가게 하소서. 여호와 보시기에 바른 삶을 살아가며 자녀들에게도 선한 영향력을 끼칠 수 있기를 소망합니다. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘. 

Lord, help me live under the influence of Your Word and draw closer to You each day. May I live a life that pleases You and be a positive influence on my children, guiding them to faith. I pray all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

1 왕이 보내어 유다와 예루살렘의 모든 장로를 자기에게로 모으고 

2 이에 여호와의 전에 올라가매 유다 모든 사람과 예루살렘 거민과 제사장들과 선지자들과 모든 백성이 무론 노소하고 다 왕과 함께한지라 왕이 여호와의 전 안에서 발견한 언약책의 모든 말씀을 읽어 무리의 귀에 들리고 

3 왕이 대 위에 서서 여호와 앞에서 언약을 세우되 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 여호와를 순종하고 그 계명과 법도와 율례를 지켜 이 책에 기록된 이 언약의 말씀을 이루게 하리라 하매 백성이 다 그 언약을 좇기로 하니라 (열왕기하 23장 3절) 

1 The king called together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 2 He went up to the temple of the Lord with the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets—all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord. 3 The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep His commands, statutes, and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant. (2 Kings 23:1-3)

요시야 왕이 성전 보수 중 발견한 하나님의 말씀이 그의 마음 깊은 곳에 강렬한 감동을 주었음을 봅니다. 이 감격은 단순히 개인의 감정에 그치지 않고, 왕으로 하여금 모든 백성들을 모아 하나님의 말씀을 듣게 하고, 말씀대로 살도록 결단하게 만드는 원동력이 되었습니다. 이는 요시야 왕이 느낀 감격이 백성들에게도 동일하게 전달되었음을 보여줍니다. 말씀을 통한 변화는 개인뿐만 아니라 공동체에도 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 사실을 깨닫게 됩니다.

King Josiah experienced a profound stirring in his heart upon discovering the Word of God during the restoration of the temple. This overwhelming conviction did not remain a personal experience but led him to gather all the people to hear God's Word and commit to living according to it. This demonstrates that the sense of awe and conviction Josiah felt was also shared by the people, resulting in communal repentance and dedication. It highlights how the Word of God can bring transformation not only to individuals but also to entire communities.

하나님의 말씀에는 사람의 마음을 감격케 하고 삶의 방향을 근본적으로 변화시키는 능력이 있음을 본문을 통해 다시 확인합니다. 내가 보기에 아무 소망이 없어 보이는 상황일지라도, 하나님의 말씀이 심기워질 때 변화가 시작될 수 있음을 믿습니다. 특히 신앙이 희미하거나 불모지 같은 지역에서도 하나님의 말씀은 새로운 생명의 불씨를 피워올릴 수 있습니다. 내가 할 일은 말씀의 능력을 신뢰하며 그 변화의 때를 위해 기도와 준비로 기다리는 것입니다.

Through this passage, I am reminded of the power of God’s Word to inspire awe, transform hearts, and redirect lives. Even in situations that appear hopeless to my limited perspective, God’s Word, when planted in people’s hearts, can spark transformation—even in places that seem like spiritual wastelands. I am challenged to trust in the transformative power of Scripture and to persist in prayer, faithfully awaiting the moment when God brings about change through His Word.

2월 비전 트립으로 섬기게될 교회들을 위해 기도합니다. 신앙의 불모지인 그곳 가운데 하나님의 영이 임하사 사람들의 마음에 감격이 임하게 하여 주시고 삶의 결단과 변화가 일어나게 하여 주소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

I lift up the churches that will be served during the February vision trip. Lord, may Your Spirit move powerfully in those places that feel like spiritual wastelands. Stir their hearts with a deep sense of awe and conviction through Your Word. Let this lead to life-changing decisions and spiritual revival. I pray all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

8 어느 날 대제사장 힐기야가 서기관 사반에게 가서 “내가 성전에서 여호와의 율법책을 발견하였습니다!” 하고 그 율법책을 사반에게 주자 사반은 그것을 읽어 보고 9 왕에게 가서 “왕의 신하들은 성전에 있던 그 돈을 성전 수리 담당자들에게 넘겨 주었습니다” 하고 보고한 다음 10 “제사장 힐기야가 나에게 이 책을 주었습니다” 하며 그것을 왕 앞에서 큰 소리로 읽었다. 11 왕은 그 율법책에 기록된 말씀을 듣자 두려워서 자기 옷을 찢고 (열왕기하 22장 8~11절) 

8 One day Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, "I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the Lord." He gave it to Shaphan, who read it. 9 Then Shaphan went to the king and reported to him, "Your officials have paid out the money that was in the temple of the Lord and have entrusted it to the workers and supervisors at the temple." 10 Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book," and Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king. 11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes in fear. (2 Kings 22:8–11)

[관찰]

요시야는 므낫세, 암몬에 이어 왕이되었습니다. 할아버지, 아버지의 길을 따르지 않고 다윗과 같이 하나님의 말씀대로 그 땅을 통치하였습니다. 수십년 동안 이방신을 섬기고 우상이 만연한 나라를 바꾸는 길을 쉽지 않았겠지만 하나님은 요시야에게 하나님의 말씀을 가까이 하는 마음과 영적인 분별력을 주셔서 이 나라를 위해 무엇을 해야할지 알려주셨습니다.  성전을 정결하게 하기 위해 성전 보수공사를 하였고 이 과정 중 율법책을 발견하였고 하나님의 말씀을 읽은 요시야 왕은 그분의 말씀을 듣고 신앙이 무너져버린 유다 왕국을 안타깝게 여기며 백성들과 하나님 앞에 나와 우상을 내어 던지고 하나님만 믿겠다는 신앙 고백을 하였습니다. 

Josiah became king following Manasseh and Amon. Despite the ungodly paths of his grandfather and father, Josiah chose to walk in the ways of David, ruling the land according to God's word. It could not have been easy to change a nation that had been steeped in idol worship and filled with pagan practices for decades. However, God gave Josiah a heart that sought His word and spiritual discernment to know what needed to be done for the nation. Josiah initiated the restoration of the temple to cleanse it, and during this process, the Book of the Law was discovered. After hearing the words of the Book of the Law, King Josiah was deeply moved and grieved over the broken state of Judah's faith. He led the people in casting out idols and publicly confessing their faith in God alone.

하나님이 하시면 인간적인 생각에서는 어려울 것 같은 상황도 바꿔주실 수 있음을 말씀을 통해 배우게 됩니다. 요시야가 왕이 되었을 때는 나이도 어렸고 (8살) 아버지와 할아버지의 신앙이 좋지 않아 보고 배울 수 있는 환경이 아니었음에도 불구하고 하나님이 그의 마음을 감동시키사 그를 통해 유다 백성이 다시금 하나님만을 믿고 바라보게 하셨던 것 처럼, 세상 사람들이 기독교를 비판하고 점점 교회를 떠나고 있는 상황이지만 주님께서 진심으로 회개하고 순종하는 주의 사람들을 통해 이땅을 바꿔주실 수 있음을 기억하며 기도해야겠다는 생각을 하게 됩니다. 

Through this passage, I am reminded that God can change situations that seem impossible from a human perspective. When Josiah became king, he was only eight years old. He lacked a good spiritual example in his father or grandfather, yet God moved his heart and used him to bring the people of Judah back to worshiping Him. Similarly, even though the world increasingly criticizes Christianity and people are leaving the church, I believe that God can still transform this land through those who truly repent and obey Him. This inspires me to pray earnestly and trust in what God can accomplish through His faithful people.

주님! 세상의 눈이 아니라 하나님이 주신 눈으로 이땅과 영혼을 바라볼 수 있게 하소서. 나의 연약함으로 낙심하지 않게 하시고 주의 크심을 보고 주가 이루실 일을 기대하고 기도하게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

Lord, help me to see this world and its people through the eyes You have given me, not through the lens of the world. May I not be discouraged by my weaknesses but instead focus on Your greatness and pray

[본문]

8 만일 이스라엘이 나의 모든 명령과 나의 종 모세의 명한 모든 율법을 지켜 행하면 내가 그들의 발로 다시는 그 열조에게 준 땅에서 떠나 유리하지 않게 하리라 하셨으나 9 이 백성이 듣지 아니하였고 므낫세의 꾀임을 받고 악을 행한 것이 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 멸하신 열방보다 더욱 심하였더라 (열왕기하 21장 8~9절) 

8 If Israel would obey all My commands and the laws that My servant Moses gave them, I would not make them wander from the land I gave their ancestors. 9 But the people did not listen. Instead, they were led astray by Manasseh and did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.

므낫세는 너무 어린 나이(12세)에 왕위에 올라 믿음의 중심을 잡아줄 선배나 지도자를 두지 못했습니다. 그는 아버지 히스기야에게서 신앙을 충분히 배울 기회가 부족했고, 결국 주변 신하들의 영향 아래 세상의 방식으로 나라를 통치하면서 하나님과 멀어졌습니다. 이는 신앙의 전수가 얼마나 중요한지를 보여줍니다.

Manasseh became king at a very young age (12 years old) and lacked a mentor or guide to help him stay faithful to God. He did not have enough time to learn from his father, King Hezekiah, and instead followed the advice of his court officials. As a result, he ruled the nation according to worldly standards and drifted far from God. This shows how crucial it is to pass on faith to the next generation.

저도 자녀들을 신앙 안에서 양육하고 있지만, 아직 예배와 기도, 말씀의 중요성을 스스로 깨닫고 실천하는 단계에는 이르지 못했습니다. 성인이 되기 전에 주일을 지키고 예배드리는 습관, 말씀을 읽고 묵상하는 습관, 용돈 가운데 헌금을 드리는 훈련 등을 통해 신앙의 뿌리를 내릴 수 있도록 돕고 싶습니다. 바쁜 일상 속에서도 시간을 내어 함께 훈련하며 자녀가 하나님을 온전히 믿고 말씀대로 살아가는 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다. 부모로서 이러한 책임을 무겁게 여기고, 자녀들에게 믿음의 유산을 전하기 위해 최선을 다하겠습니다.

I am also raising my children in faith, but they have not yet fully understood or practiced the importance of worship, prayer, and the Word of God on their own. Before they become adults, I want to help them build good spiritual habits, such as keeping the Sabbath and attending worship, reading and meditating on Scripture, and practicing giving offerings from their allowance. Despite my busy schedule, I will set aside time to guide them so they can grow strong in their faith and live according to God’s Word. As a parent, I feel the great responsibility to pass on my faith and will do my best to fulfill this role.

하나님, 자녀들에게 믿음이 온전히 전해질 수 있도록 저희 가족의 마음과 환경을 주장하여 주소서. 말씀을 함께 읽고 삶 가운데 하나님의 도우심을 나눌 수 있는 시간을 갖게 하시고, 자녀들이 예배와 기도의 습관을 통해 하나님을 깊이 알아가게 하소서. 제가 부모로서 신앙을 물려주는 사명을 잘 감당할 수 있도록 지혜와 인내를 더하여 주소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

[본문]

13 여호와께서 각 선지자와 각 선견자로 이스라엘과 유다를 경계하여 이르시기를 너희는 돌이켜 너희 악한 길에서 떠나 나의 명령과 율례를 지키되 내가 너희 열조에게 명하고 또 나의 종 선지자들로 너희에게 전한 모든 율법대로 행하라 하셨으나 (열왕기하 17장 13절)

[적용]

오늘 본문을 보며 하나님의 이스라엘을 향한 말씀이 마치 부모가 자녀를 걱정하며 훈계하는 모습처럼 느껴졌습니다. 부모는 자녀를 올바른 길로 이끌기 위해 반복해서 이야기하지만, 자녀는 이를 듣지 않고 자신이 원하는 대로 행동합니다. 이 모습은 하나님께서 선지자들을 통해 이스라엘에게 경고하셨지만, 이스라엘이 우상을 숭배하며 말씀을 외면했던 모습과 닮아 있습니다.

[적용]

자녀들에게 “하나님 말씀을 읽어야 한다”, “기도하고 시작해야 한다”, “시간 관리를 해야 한다”, “건강한 음식을 먹어야 한다” 같은 말을 반복하지만, 대답만 할 뿐 행동으로 옮기지 않을 때가 많습니다. 답답한 마음이 들 때도 있지만, 돌아보면 저 역시 어릴 때 부모님의 말씀을 듣지 않고 비슷하게 행동했던 것을 떠올리게 됩니다.

그러나 시간이 흐르고, 하나님을 경험하며 철이 들어가면서, 누가 시키지 않아도 어려운 순간마다 주님을 찾고, 하루를 소중히 여기며 계획을 세워 살아가게 되는 것을 봅니다. 자녀들도 그날이 올 것을 믿으며 기다리는 것이 부모로서의 역할임을 깨닫습니다. 그동안은 잘못된 길로 가지 않도록 사랑으로 양육하고, 안전한 울타리 안에서 기도하며 기다리는 것이 중요하다고 느낍니다.

[기도]

하나님, 우리 자녀들이 하나님의 말씀을 가까이하며 주님을 경험하고, 주님 안에 거하는 것이 가장 큰 복임을 깨닫는 날을 허락해 주세요. 제가 부족해도, 우리 자녀들을 가장 사랑하시는 주님께서 주님의 때에 주님의 방법으로 인도해 주실 것을 믿습니다. 기다리는 동안 지혜롭고 사랑으로 양육할 수 있도록 제게 힘과 인내를 더해 주세요. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

[Scripture]

2 Kings 17:13
The Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and seers: "Turn from your evil ways. Keep My commands and decrees according to the entire law that I commanded your ancestors and delivered to you through My servants the prophets."

[Reflection]

Today's passage reminds me of how God's warnings to Israel are similar to a parent correcting their child out of concern. Parents repeatedly guide their children toward the right path, but children often ignore the advice and follow their own desires. This mirrors how God sent His prophets to warn Israel, yet they ignored His words and turned to idol worship, refusing to listen.

[Application]

As a parent, I often find myself saying things like, "You need to read God’s Word," "Pray before you start your day," "Manage your time wisely," or "Eat healthy food." Yet my children often respond with a simple acknowledgment but don’t follow through. At times, this can be frustrating, but when I reflect on my own childhood, I realize I behaved the same way with my parents.

Over time, as I experienced God’s work in my life and grew more mature, I began to turn to Him on my own during difficult moments. I learned to value each day, plan wisely, and live intentionally. I believe the same will happen with my children in God’s time. As a parent, my role is to patiently wait, pray, and guide them within a safe boundary of love and discipline, trusting that God will work in their lives.

[Prayer]

Lord, please grant my children the grace to draw near to Your Word and experience You in their lives. Help them understand that abiding in You is the greatest blessing they can have. I trust that You, who love my children far more than I ever could, will lead them in Your perfect time and way. Please give me the wisdom, patience, and love to guide them faithfully as I wait for You to work in their hearts. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
