[본문]

26 유다가 형제들에게 말하였다. “우리가 동생을 죽이고 그 애의 피를 덮어 봤자 우리에게 무슨 이익이 있겠어? 27자, 그 애를 우리 손으로 해치는 대신 저 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔아버리자. 결국 그 애는 우리와 살과 피를 나눈 형제가 아니냐.” 다른 형제들도 모두 찬성하였다. 28그래서 미디안의 상인들이 지나갈 때에 그들은 요셉을 우물에서 끌어 올려 은 이십 세겔을 받고 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔아 넘겼다. 이스마엘 사람들은 요셉을 이집트로 데려갔다. (창세기 37:26~28) 

Genesis 37:26-28
26 Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? 27 Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.” His brothers agreed. 28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, they pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

[관찰]

요셉이 살았던 시대에는 옳고 그름을 판단할 명확한 기준이 없었습니다. 사람들은 자신의 이익이나 감정에 따라 행동했고, 이를 제어할 법이나 사회적 통념도 부족했습니다.

요셉의 형들은 동생을 직접 죽이는 것까지는 꺼렸지만, 그것이 도덕적 신념 때문이라기보다는 최소한의 양심과 죄책감 때문이었습니다. 결국, 그들은 요셉을 죽이는 대신 이스마엘 상인들에게 팔아넘겼습니다. 이는 곧 하나님의 말씀이 없는 세상에서 인간의 도덕적 기준이 얼마나 쉽게 흔들릴 수 있는지를 보여줍니다.

During Joseph’s time, there was no clear moral standard to determine right from wrong. People acted according to their own interests and emotions, with little to restrain them, as laws and social norms were not well established.

Joseph’s brothers hesitated to kill him, not necessarily because of a strong moral conviction, but due to a lingering sense of guilt and conscience. Instead of taking his life, they chose to sell him to the Ishmaelite merchants. This story illustrates how, in a world without God's guidance, human morality can easily become unstable and self-serving.

[적용]

오늘 본문을 묵상하며 잠언 29:18 말씀이 떠올랐습니다.
"묵시(계시)가 없으면 백성이 방자히 행하거니와, 율법을 지키는 자는 복이 있느니라."

하나님의 말씀이 내 마음속에 자리 잡고 있지 않다면, 나는 세상이 허용하는 범위 내에서 죄를 짓는 데 점점 익숙해질 수도 있습니다. 하나님의 기준이 아닌 세상의 기준을 따라가면, 죄의 경계는 점점 더 흐려지고 결국 더욱 큰 죄에 빠질 위험이 커집니다.

내가 하는 선택이 하나님이 기뻐하시는 일인지, 성경 말씀에 비추어 떳떳한지, 기도할 때 마음이 편안한지를 늘 점검하며 살아가야겠습니다.

As I reflected on today’s passage, Proverbs 29:18 came to mind:
"Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction."

If God's Word does not dwell in my heart, I may gradually become desensitized to sin, making choices based on what society permits rather than what God desires. When the standard of righteousness is not rooted in God's Word, the boundary of sin becomes increasingly blurred, leading to even greater wrongdoing.

Therefore, I must continually examine my choices:
🔹 Is this pleasing to God?
🔹 Does it align with the teachings of Scripture?
🔹 Do I have peace in my heart when I pray about it?

By keeping these questions in mind, I will strive to live according to God's standards, not the world's.

주님! 주님의 말씀이 내 삶의 기준이 되기를 소망합니다. 내 평생에 주님의 말씀을 가까이 하게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘. 

Lord, I long for Your Word to be the guiding standard of my life. Help me to stay close to Your truth all my days. May I seek Your wisdom and walk in obedience to You.

1 야곱이 고개를 들어 보니 에서가 부하 사백 명을 거느리고 오고 있었다. 그래서 그는 자식들을 레아와 라헬과 두 여종에게 나누어 맡겼다. 2그는 여종들과 그들이 낳은 아이들을 앞에 두고 레아와 레아가 낳은 아이들을 그 뒤에 두고 라헬과 요셉은 맨 뒤에 두었다. 3그 자신은 맨 앞으로 나가 형에게로 가까이 가면서 일곱 번 땅 위에 엎드려 절하였다. 4그러나 에서는 야곱을 맞으러 달려와서 그를 끌어안았다. 에서는 두 팔로 야곱의 목을 끌어안고 입을 맞추었다. 그리고 두 사람이 같이 울었다. (창세기33:1~4) 

Genesis 33:1-4
1 Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming with four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two female servants. 2 He put the female servants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear. 3 He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother. 4 But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.

[관찰]

벧엘에서 하나님의 사자와 씨름하다 환도뼈를 다쳐 절뚝이게 된 야곱은, 형 에서를 만나러 가며 일곱 번이나 땅에 엎드려 절했습니다. 오랜 시간 집을 떠나 고된 삶을 살아온 야곱의 모습을 본 에서는 그에게 긍휼한 마음이 들었을 것입니다.

그러나 더 중요한 것은, 하나님께서 에서의 마음을 움직이셨다는 점입니다. 하나님께서 그의 마음 속에서 미움과 원망을 녹여 주셨기에, 에서는 야곱을 향해 달려가 그를 끌어안고 입을 맞추며 함께 울 수 있었습니다. 결국 두 형제의 화해는 하나님의 은혜로 이루어진 것이었습니다.

After wrestling with God's angel at Bethel and injuring his hip, Jacob approached his brother Esau, bowing seven times to the ground. Seeing his long-lost brother—who had endured years of hardship away from home—Esau may have felt compassion for him.

More importantly, it was God who moved Esau’s heart. By His grace, Esau’s resentment and anger melted away, allowing him to run to Jacob, embrace him, and weep with him. Their reconciliation was not merely a human effort but the result of God's divine work.

[적용]

성령의 열매는 원수까지도 사랑하게 합니다. 내 힘만으로는 도저히 용서할 수 없는 사람도, 내 작은 마음의 그릇으로는 도저히 품을 수 없는 관계도, 성령께서 내 마음을 변화시키시면 가능해집니다.

때때로 과거의 상처가 떠올라 힘들 때가 있지만, 그럴 때마다 다시 주님 앞에 엎드리고 성령의 도우심을 구하면, 내 안에 있는 미움도 점점 사라지고 주님의 평안이 자리 잡게 됨을 경험합니다. 오늘도 성령님의 도우심으로 용서와 사랑의 삶을 살아가기를 소망합니다.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit enables us to love even our enemies. On my own, I may find it impossible to forgive those who have wronged me. My heart is too small and weak to embrace them. But when the Holy Spirit works within me, He transforms my heart and gives me the strength to forgive.

At times, painful memories resurface, making forgiveness difficult. However, when I surrender before the Lord and seek His help, I experience His peace and healing. I pray that today, once again, I may rely on the Holy Spirit to live a life of love and reconciliation.

주님, 세상의 가치관과 시선이 아닌, 성경의 가치관과 성령님의 시선으로 사람들을 바라보게 하소서. 내게 허락하신 이웃을 주님의 마음으로 사랑하며 살아가게 하시고, 내 안의 미움과 상처가 성령님의 역사로 회복되게 하소서.
예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

Lord, help me to see others not through the lens of worldly values but through the perspective of Scripture and the Holy Spirit. Fill my heart with Your love so that I may embrace those around me as You do. Heal my heart from past wounds and lead me to live in forgiveness and grace.

13 “나는 주 곧 네 할아버지 아브라함의 하나님이며 이삭의 하나님이다. 네가 지금 누워 있는 그 땅을 너와 네 자손에게 주겠다. 14네 자손은 땅의 티끌처럼 많아져서 동서남북 사방으로 뻗어나갈 것이다. 땅 위의 모든 백성이 너와 네 자손을 통하여 복을 받을 것이다. 15내가 너와 함께 있어서 네가 어디를 가든지 너를 지켜 주겠다. 그리고 너를 다시 이 땅으로 데려다 주겠다. 내가 네게 약속한 것을 다 지킬 때까지 네 곁을 떠나지 않겠다.” (창세기 28:13~15) 

13 "I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth, and they will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

[관찰] 

형 에서를 피해 도망가던 야곱은 벧엘에서 잠을 자던 중, 꿈속에서 하나님을 만났습니다. 하나님께서는 아브라함과 이삭에게 주셨던 축복의 약속을 야곱에게도 동일하게 전해 주셨습니다. 야곱은 비록 장자권을 얻고자 하는 욕심으로 인해 형의 분노를 사 쫓기는 신세가 되었지만, 하나님을 사모하는 마음이 있었습니다. 하나님께서는 그런 야곱을 외면하지 않으시고, 그의 자손이 땅의 티끌처럼 많아져 동서남북으로 퍼져나갈 것이라는 축복을 주셨습니다. 지금은 외롭고 연약한 처지일지라도, 하나님의 계획 속에서 그는 큰 민족의 조상이 될 것이었습니다. 

While fleeing from his brother Esau, Jacob stopped to rest in Bethel and had a dream in which he encountered God. In that dream, God reaffirmed the same promise of blessing that He had given to Abraham and Isaac.

Although Jacob had obtained the birthright through his own desires and deception, leading to his exile, he still longed for God's blessing. God did not abandon him but instead assured him that his descendants would be as numerous as the dust of the earth and would spread in all directions. Though Jacob was alone and in a difficult situation at that moment, God had a greater plan for him—to become the forefather of a great nation.

[적용] 

저 또한 처음부터 순수한 동기로 주님을 찾았던 것은 아니었을 수도 있습니다. 지금 내가 하는 모든 일이 하나님 보시기에 완전하지 않을 수도 있습니다. 그러나 하나님을 사모하는 마음만 있다면, 나의 부족함까지도 기쁘게 받으시고, 주님의 함께하심으로 온전하게 채워 주실 것을 믿습니다. 오늘도 하나님을 향한 마음을 잃지 않고, 주님과 동행하는 삶을 살기를 소망합니다.

I, too, may not have initially sought God with completely pure intentions. Not everything I do may be pleasing in His sight. However, if I continue to seek Him with a sincere heart, I trust that God will accept me despite my shortcomings and will complete His work in me through His presence.

Today, I pray that I will not lose my longing for God but will walk with Him faithfully, remembering that His plans for me are always good.

주님을 사랑하는 마음 허락하시고 주님의 마음으로 오늘 하루를 살아가게 하여주소서. 사랑과 인자가 많으신 우리주 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘. 

Lord, grant me a heart that truly loves and longs for You. Help me to live this day with Your heart and Your love. May I grow in faith and walk in Your presence daily.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is full of love and mercy, I pray. Amen.

32“주여, 노하지 마소서. 내가 한 번만 더 말씀드리겠습니다. 만일 그 성에서 의로운 사람 10명을 찾으신다면 어떻게 하시겠습니까?” “의로운 사람이 10명만 있어도 내가 그 성을 멸망시키지 않겠다.” 33여호와께서는 아브라함과 말씀을 마치신 후 즉시 떠나시고 아브라함은 자기 천막으로 돌아왔다. (창세기 18:32~33) 

32 "Then he said, 'May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?' He answered, 'For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.'"
33 When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, He left, and Abraham returned home. (Genesis 18:32–33)

[관찰]

아브라함이 주의 사자와 ‘소돔과 고모라 땅의 심판’에 대해 협상을 하여 의인의 숫자가 10명만 있어도 멸망시키지 않겠다는 약속을 받았습니다. 아브라함이 보기에는 소돔과 고모라 땅에는 조카 롯과 그의 가족들이 있기에 적어도 10명의 의인이 있을거라 여겼던 것 같습니다. 그러나 결국 소돔과 고모라 땅에는 10명의 의인조차 없었고, 하나님의 심판이 임하게 됩니다. 

Abraham pleaded with the Lord regarding the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah and received the promise that if even ten righteous people were found there, the cities would not be destroyed. Abraham assumed that at least ten righteous people, including his nephew Lot and his family, would be present in Sodom and Gomorrah. However, in the end, there were not even ten righteous people in the land, and God's judgment was carried out.

[적용]

아브라함이 기대했던 것과 달리, 소돔과 고모라 땅에는 구원받을 만한 의인이 없었습니다. 이는 단순히 종교적인 행위나 겉으로만 믿는 척하는 것이 아닌, 하나님 앞에서 진심으로 믿으며 살아가는 삶이 얼마나 중요한지를 보여줍니다

교회 다닌다고 모두 구원을 받는 것이 아니라는 말이 떠오릅니다. 내 마음에 진심으로 예수님을 구세주로 여긴 자 만이 구원받을 수 있고 구원받은 자의 삶은 이전과 180도 달라진다는 사실을 기억해야겠습니다. 내 안에 예수님을 믿는 증거가 없으면 구원을 확신할 수 없음을 잊지 말아야겠습니다. 

Contrary to Abraham's expectations, there were no righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah who could be saved. This shows that what matters is not merely religious practices or outward appearances of faith, but truly living with genuine faith before God.

It reminds me that not everyone who attends church is necessarily saved. Only those who truly accept Jesus as their Savior in their hearts can receive salvation, and the lives of those who are saved must be completely transformed. I must remember that if there is no evidence of my faith in Jesus, I cannot be certain of my salvation.

[기도]

주님! 제 삶에 예수님을 구세주로 믿는 증거가 드러나길 소망합니다. 40년 넘게 신앙생활했지만 구원을 못받는다면 이 처럼 안타까운 상황이 어디있겠습니까? 세상에 속지 않게 하시고 주님만이 나의 구원자이시며, 나를 인도하시는 분임을 놓치지 않고 하루하루 살아갈 수 있게 하여주소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

[Prayer]
Lord! I long for my life to show clear evidence that I truly believe in Jesus as my Savior. How tragic it would be if I spent over 40 years in faith yet failed to receive salvation! Help me not to be deceived by the world but to live each day firmly holding onto the truth that You alone are my Savior and guide. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

1여호와께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 네 고향과 친척과 집을 떠 나 내가 지시할 땅으로 가거라. 2내가 너를 큰 민족의 조상이 되게 하고 너를 축복하여 네 이름을 크게 떨치게 하겠다. 너는 다른 사람에게 복을 끼치는 자가 될 것이다. 3너를 축복하는 자를 내가 축복하고 너를 저주하는 자를 내가 저주할 것이니 땅의 모든 민족이 너를 통해 복을 받을 것이다.” (창세기 12:1~3) 

[관찰]

아브람은 하나님을 잘 알지 못했지만, 하나님께서 그를 찾아오셔서 하나님의 백성으로 삼아주셨습니다. 그리고 그는 하나님의 말씀에 순종하여 가족들을 이끌고 약속의 땅으로 떠났습니다. 익숙한 환경을 떠나 전혀 새로운 곳으로 나아가는 것은 지금도 쉽지 않은 일입니다. 하물며, 아브람은 아무런 정보도 없이, 어떤 환경이 기다리고 있을지 알지 못한 채 떠나야 했습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그는 하나님의 말씀을 믿고 담대히 순종하였습니다. 이를 통해 하나님의 부르심에는 반드시 계획과 약속이 있으며, 그에 응답하는 믿음이 중요함을 깨닫습니다.

[적용]

올해 초부터 청년부를 섬기게 되었습니다. 처음 장로님께 청년부 사역을 맡아달라는 요청을 받았을 때, 많은 고민과 망설임이 있었습니다.
"회사 일이 바빠지면 사역을 잘 감당할 수 있을까?"
"차가 한 대뿐인데, 주일 사역을 마치고 혼자 어떻게 집에 오지?"
"주일 오후 가족과 함께 보내는 시간이 줄어들 텐데 괜찮을까?"
그동안 누려왔던 편안함과 감당해야 할 현실적인 문제들이 떠올랐습니다. 하지만 하나님께서 원하시는 길이라면, 주님께서 필요한 것들을 채워주실 것이라는 믿음으로 순종하기로 결정했습니다. 하나님께서 아브람의 순종을 통해 이스라엘 민족을 이루신 것처럼, 저의 작은 순종을 통해서도 주님께서 이루실 놀라운 일들을 기대하며 나아갑니다.

[기도]

하나님의 부르심에는 후회하심이 없다고 하셨으니 그 말씀에 순종하여 그 길을 걷는 자들에게 주님이 친히 함께 하여 주소서. 주의 길을 가는 가운데 주님의 선하신 뜻을 깨닫게 하시고 결국에는 선한 열매를 맺게 하여 주소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.
